Aer Lingus boosts Heathrow to Shannon link
July 23, 2009Aer Lingus is adding an extra daily flight from London Heathrow to Shannon Airport, less than two years after it dropped the service from its network.
The route will be operated three times a day from this October, with an additional midday flight complementing existing morning and evening services.
Aer Lingus axed the link in August 2007 after focusing on its London to Belfast connection.
But the route was unexpectedly reinstated in March of this year, and after reporting strong traffic growth the Irish flag carrier now plans to expand it further.
Airline spokesman Enda Corneille said: "The increased frequency will connect Shannon and London Heathrow three times daily, which will further strengthen business, leisure and connecting traffic between the west of Ireland and Europe's largest international airport."
He continued: "The development reflects the growth and strong traffic volumes that we have seen since the resumption of the service last March."
The Dublin-based carrier announced earlier this month that it has hired former TUI Travel Aviation Director Christoph Mueller as its new CEO, replacing Dermot Mannion.
