Virgin Atlantic unveils vtravelled social site
June 24, 2009Virgin Atlantic has launched a new social media site, vtravelled.com, which enables globetrotters to organise and share their travel itineraries.
The polished site has a strong emphasis on visuals, with travellers being encouraged to upload their own photos as well as write about their experiences.
By creating so-called Trip Pods, users can build a profile of their destination and then invite friends and family members to collaborate on their plans.
Vtravelled also includes a wealth of information ranging from destination guides to tips for picking your next holiday – all of which can be modified by the community.
"We like to make it our mission, wherever possible, to make travel more fun and inspiring," explained vtravelled's creative director, Lysette Gauna.
"It was a great advantage working with Vexed Digital who are very experienced in developing social platforms. Together, I believe we have developed some must-have tools for travellers and as the community grows they will help us shape and refine the offering."
Virgin's new service appears to be an attempt to compete with the independently run V-flyer.com website, which has a community of more than 75,000 users.
