Swiss International Air Lines' discount for young flyers
June 26, 2009Prior to the low-cost airline revolution, child fares were the norm. Then, the low-costers shook up the market and children aged two and over were treated as adults and charged accordingly.
Now Swiss International Air Lines has introduced a child fare that is 33 per cent less than the standard adult fare. The taxes, fees and other charges will still be applied to tickets for children.
The parent-pleasing reduction is available for children aged two to 11 years (on the date of departure) on all Economy and Business-Class routes departing from the UK and Ireland to Europe. Sadly, flights to Switzerland are not included.
Swiss flies from Manchester, Birmingham, London Heathrow and City airports to popular destinations such as Malaga, Faro, Barcelona and Palma de Majorca - via airports in Switzerland.

If the child is going to sit in his mother's lap then there is no sense for the company to charge for it. But is that allowed, for a child to sit in the mother's lap during a flight?

Dear Pierre,
Children under the age of two - in an adult's lap - are charged 10 per cent of the adult fare. The child discount applies to children aged two to 11 years.
Hope this helps.
