New baggage charge for Aer Lingus flyers
June 26, 2009Aer Lingus is to introduce a new baggage charge on long-haul flights to and from the United States.
Economy-Class flyers will still be able to check-in one bag free of charge, but it will cost €40 (£36 or $50) to check-in second and subsequent bags.
An excess fee of €40 (£36 or $50) will be charged for any bag weighing between 23kg and 32kg (50lbs to 70lbs).
To escape the charge, book flights to the US quickly. The charge will come into effect on July 1 and apply to travel from July 15.

We are flying to Melbourne, Australia, and need to get a connecting flight from Belfast to Heathrow. Do the same baggage rules as stated for USA apply?

Dear Rosemary,
These new baggage charges apply on flights to the US. Checked baggage fees for Aer Lingus Economy-Class customers taking Belfast-Heathrow flights are £8 per bag (weighing up to 20kg) per one-way flight if booked online in advance or £15 at the airport. If you are travelling Flexifare, you can check two bags (weighing up to 20kg) free of charge.
You'll find a link to the Baggage Information page on the left-hand side of the Aer Lingus website (aerlingus.com).
We hope this helps.
