Germanwings to fly Manchester to Cologne-Bonn
June 22, 2009Germanwings, the low-cost German airline, is to start flying from Manchester Airport to Cologne-Bonn in October.
The five-times-per-week service is being introduced for business flyers, but leisure travellers will be able to benefit from the connection too.
Cologne is Germany's oldest city, and boasts, apart from its exquisite cathedral, six Christmas markets. Cologne-Bonn Airport (CGN) is a gateway to North Rhine-Westphalia and travellers can connect to more than 60 destinations from there.
Thomas Winkelmann, CEO of Germanwings, said: “Manchester is an important step for us. It has one of the fastest growing economies in Britain today, and is seen by many as the UK’s second city.
“By launching a service connecting it directly with Cologne/Bonn we hope to tap into a major business market which continues to grow rapidly.”
Flights are on sale now with outward flights in mid-November available from £13.99 one-way including taxes and charges. Book via the Germanwings website (www.germanwings.com).
Germanwings already flies from London Stansted year-round and offers seasonal routes from Edinburgh and Dublin airports.
