Delta to drop routes from Edinburgh and London Gatwick
June 15, 2009Delta Air Lines is the latest carrier to announce that it will be axing routes this autumn.
Citing high jet fuel prices, softer travel demand and the spread of Swine Flu, Delta says it will reduce some services from September.
Of most interest to UK flyers will be services from Edinburgh and London Gatwick airports.
Edinburgh to New York JFK flights will be suspended. Flights from London Gatwick to Cincinnati will also be cut.
In its press release, the world's largest airline said: "Customer demand for international travel has fallen significantly. Accordingly, we plan to reduce our international capacity by an additional 5 percent from what we announced in March, for a 15 percent total reduction in international capacity.
"This fall's capacity reductions will target routes that have experienced losses in the current economic climate and with higher fuel prices.”
Delta will continue to fly from Gatwick and Heathrow airports to super hub Atlanta and from Heathrow to New York JFK.
