Bmi opens new lounge at Heathrow Airport
June 3, 2009Bmi has unveiled a new international lounge for passengers travelling from London Heathrow Airport, situated above Gate 5 in Terminal 1.
Dubbed Bmi Number One Heathrow, the facility features free Wi-Fi access, boardroom-style meeting rooms and a cafe. It opened its doors on Monday (June 1).
The lounge will be open to bmi Business Class passengers, as well as Diamond Club (gold and silver) and Star Alliance Gold travellers headed to bmi international destinations.
Its launch follows the carrier's takeover of British Mediterranean Airways, which resulted in several new mid-haul destinations being added to its route network.
"The old lounge was looking a bit tired," spokesperson Katherine Gershon was quoted by TTG as saying. "It was very much a traditional lounge designed to cater for customers flying short-haul to Europe on business.
"Now with our change in routes, customers are expecting more from the international lounge. We are also getting more transit customers who want to have a shower or a meal before they fly."
Just last week, bmi added a further nine destinations when it expanded its codeshare agreement with fellow Heathrow carrier Virgin Atlantic.
