Air Canada to allow pets as hand luggage
June 23, 2009Air Canada passengers will soon be able to carry their pets as hand luggage on international flights, following a change to the airline's baggage policy.
The Canadian national carrier, along with its regional affiliate Jazz, will become one of the few airlines to allow cats and small dogs in the cabin from July 1.
Pet owners will have to pay $100 (£61) for the privilege on international flights, while the fee for domestic routes is reduced to $50.
They must ensure that animals are contained in leak-proof carriers weighing no more than 10kg, which must be stowed under the seat. A maximum of four pets will be carried per flight.
In an effort to accommodate the needs of passengers with allergies, the airline is also asking people who have a relevant condition to make this known during check-in.
The service is not currently available on direct flights to or from Britain, but it applies to all other European countries on the Air Canada route network.

Yipeee! This is really rare, but it can be an easy way to carry your pets to places outside your region. I really appreciate this effort of Air Canada, as well as the safety precaution they've taken by keeping them as hand luggage. Thanks a lot.
