Virgin adds winter flights to Puerto Rico
May 7, 2009 Virgin Atlantic is expanding its Caribbean route network by opening up a new connection between London Gatwick Airport and Puerto Rico.
The airline will be operating a weekly link to the tiny Caribbean island this winter, with services running from November 7, 2009, to April 24, 2010.
Flights will land in the Puerto Rican capital of San Juan after a stopover in Antigua. They will be operated by one of the carrier's flagship Boeing 747-400s.
Virgin Atlantic CEO Steve Ridgway predicted that the new connection will be welcomed by British holidaymakers, particularly those using the island as a departure point for a cruise.
He commented: "The launch of these services allows our sister company Virgin Holidays to offer a range of fantastic cruise holidays from the island, meaning that even more Virgin travellers can enjoy what this beautiful island has to offer."
Sir Richard Branson's airline already has an extensive presence in the Caribbean, operating services to Barbados, Antigua, St Lucia, Grenada, Tobago, Havana and Jamaica.
