Another Flyglobespan route cancelled
January 6, 2009Flyglobespan has cancelled another route from Aberdeen Airport due to a lack of passenger demand. According to The Press and Journal, the carrier has dropped its weekly service from the Scottish airport to Gran Canaria.
The route was only launched on December 22 but the newspaper reported that Flyglobespan has now emailed its passengers to say that it is no longer operating the service.
A spokesperson for the airline discussed the cancellation of the route with The Press and Journal and said that the move was not one that was considered lightly.
He was quoted as saying: "Lack of uptake is a consistent factor in all winter programmes and the credit crunch seems to make it worse in this case. "We are committed to bringing as many routes as possible to Aberdeen but cannot justify loss-making programmes in this financial climate."
Flyglobespan has previously cancelled three other international routes from Aberdeen in the last couple of months, including flights to Sharm el Sheikh and Lanzarote.
