Monarch to operate Caribbean service
November 21, 2008Monarch Airlines has announced that it will operate a former XL Airways route from London Gatwick Airport to the Caribbean islands of Grenada and Tobago.
The British charter, which is based in Luton, will begin the weekly service from December 17, with flights departing Gatwick at 9.30am and arriving in Grenada at 2.50pm and Tobago at 4.40pm.
The return flight, which will be scheduled on an Airbus A330, leaves Grenada at 4.05pm, and Tobago at 6.40pm, arriving back at Gatwick at 6.55am the next morning.
Monarch will offer customers 307 economy seats and 51 premium economy on the service, which was originally halted after the Icelandic-owned carrier XL folded in August.
David Mortimer, commercial director of Operation Golden Caribbean, which is selling seats at sale price for the flights, expressed his delight that a carrier has been secured at such a short notice.
He told Travel Mole: "It was important to re-establish these services as quickly as possible and … we are confident that holidaymakers will find that this new service is one that they can have complete faith in."
