KLM returns to Liverpool after 70 years
November 4, 2008KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has confirmed that it will operate services out of Liverpool John Lennon Airport for the first time in almost 70 years.
As of March 29, the carrier will run three daily flights from the city to Amsterdam, from where it offers connections to more than 100 destinations worldwide.
Departures will be spread throughout the day, with outbound services from Liverpool taking to the skies at 6.15am, 10.30am and 5.30pm.
Bookings for the new route - which will be serviced by the carrier's Fokker 70 aircraft - can be placed via KLM's website from today onwards.
KLM senior vice president Pieter Elbers said the resumption was long overdue, adding that the last flight KLM operated between Liverpool and Amsterdam took off on August 31, 1939. "We are delighted to be renewing our partnership with Liverpool after such a long absence," he affirmed.
KLM now operates out of 15 British airports, making it one of the country's main carriers. UK flights presently account for 17 per cent of its worldwide traffic.
