BA: Failing to expand Heathrow will have '30 year impact'
November 21, 2008British Airways has warned the government that the UK economy will be held back by 30 years if plans for a third runway at London Heathrow Airport are not approved.
Britain's flag carrier has suggested that the rejection of the extension project will leave the country without an airport to match the capacity of rivals in Europe and the Middle East.
Speaking to the Airport Operators' Association conference in London, BA chief executive, Willie Walsh, said that he expected a decision on the planned runway by next month.
In addition, he reserved particular disregard for London mayor Boris Johnson's plans for an airport on the Thames Estuary.
Mr Walsh said: "We have prevaricated about airport expansion for far too long. Meanwhile the other major European countries have raced ahead, investing in hub airport capacity to provide the geographic network businesses need as the global economy develops."
The Association of European Airlines reported that BA is the worst airline for lost and delayed baggage.
