Thomsonfly cancels all Coventry services
October 22, 2008Thomsonfly (website: www.thomsonfly.com) has announced that it is terminating all services from its regional base at Coventry Airport.
The low-cost carrier said that the cancellations had become necessary due to increased demand for charter flights, which had placed its scheduled services under strain.
Its announcement comes just one week after the airport lost a High Court appeal to construct a new passenger terminal.
Following on from the failure of that bid - which would have resulted in a facility capable of handling two million passengers a year - Thomsonfly made the decision to leave the airport.
Airline managing director Chris Browne explained: "With an increased focus on charter holiday flights, there is now a growing need for our aircraft on these routes and consequently our scheduled operations at Coventry Airport will regrettably terminate."
An airport spokesman added: "While accepting that this decision is based on a review of their present strategy, the door is open should they wish to return."
The final outbound flight operated by Thomsonfly from Coventry Airport will take place on November 2. Passengers who have bookings for after that date will be offered a refund.
