Flyglobespan beefs up Aberdeen routes
September 10, 2008Flyglobespan is to launch three new winter sun routes from Aberdeen Airport, The Press & Journal reports.
This December, the Scottish low-cost carrier will start flying to the Egyptian resort of Sharm el Sheikh, as well as the Canary Islands of Lanzarote and Gran Canaria.
The announcement comes just days after it emerged that no-frills rival Flybe is planning major route expansion at Aberdeen Airport.
While that carrier will be boosting the number of aircraft it has based at the gateway by four or five, Flyglobespan will add just a single plane to accommodate the new routes
It already has a strong presence at the base thanks to its existing service to Tenerife, as well as the forthcoming routes to Dalaman in Turkey and the Spanish island of Ibiza.
Commenting on the latest additions, Flyglobespan chief executive Rick Green said: "Both Egypt and the Canaries offer a wide range of facilities including fantastic beaches, great golf courses, world-class hotels and resorts and of course a very appealing climate.
"Sharm el Sheikh, of course, has the added benefit of offering one of the world’s best sites for diving, as well as an exotic culture."
