SIA cuts Manchester link, boosts Heathrow
August 5, 2008
Singapore Airlines (SIA) is to reduce the frequency of its direct Manchester to Singapore route by two flights per week.
The national carrier will be axing its outbound Tuesday and Thursday services from November 5, bringing the number of weekly flights down to five.
Any Manchester residents wishing to fly between the two cities on those days will now have to make use of a connecting Heathrow service operated by alliance partner bmi.
Meanwhile, extra seats on the carrier's flagship London to Singapore connection have been freed up following the deployment of its new Airbus A380 superjumbos.
From September 20, flights will depart from the British capital daily at 10.05pm - boosting the current four-times weekly service - with return flights leaving the city state at 12:45pm local time.
Singapore Airlines marked the 1,000th flight of its Airbus A380 yesterday (August 4), some nine months after it began flying the massive double-decker jet.
