Wizz Air celebrates fourth year in operation
May 21, 2008Low-cost airline Wizz Air has celebrated its fourth anniversary this week.
The carrier, based in Hungary, officially marked its fourth year of operating flights on May 19.
Wizz Air's first flight took off from Katowice International Airport and in 2007 it carried 4.2 million passengers – a 40 per cent increase on the previous year. In 2008, it expects to carry more than six million passengers.
Chief executive Jozsef Varadi, asserted that the airline's "high-quality service standards" has helped Wizz Air to achieve its growth.
He said: "Wizz Air continues to win the hearts and minds of millions of passengers travelling in Europe. I am proud that the company's fast pace of growth has been achieved by maintaining high-quality service standards recognised by our customers not only on board but by a number of awards that we have received this year.
"Wizz Air is well positioned to become the single largest airline of all in central and eastern Europe in the near term."
More than 12 million passengers have now travelled with Wizz Air, which serves around 50 destinations on more than 100 routes.
