Manchester expansion planned by bmibaby
May 22, 2008bmibaby has announced plans to expand the size of its operations at Manchester Airport by 50 per cent.
The low-cost carrier revealed on Tuesday (May 20) that it intends to add new destinations and increase the frequency of existing routes, The Manchester Evening News reported.
According to the newspaper, bmibaby's plans could create more than 100 jobs, which would double its number of staff based at the northern airport.
It added that the airline is interested in creating new routes to destinations in eastern Europe such as Warsaw, as well as places in Italy, Spain and France.
Speaking to The Manchester Evening News about the proposed expansion, managing director Crawford Rix said that the airline is confident that the plans reflect passenger demand.
He explained: "There is plenty of room for expansion. Manchester is working extremely well for us, and we have a great deal of confidence in the market."
bmibaby celebrated its fifth anniversary of operations at Manchester Airport this month.
