From the TTG blogs: A love of long-haul

BangkokFrancesca Ecsery, Cheapflights' general manager, is writing a regular blog for Travel Trade Gazette's website, ttglive.com. Here is her latest post.

Our traffic flow for this year shows that the most popular destinations for 2008 revolve somewhat around the usual suspects like Tenerife, Lanzarote, and Gran Canaria, but also include Dubai, Orlando, Bangkok, Barbados, Goa, and Sharm El-Sheikh.

At first glance, you might think that there’s nothing really new about this information, but actually there is. If you examine the trend a bit more closely, you’ll see that long haul destinations seem to be the favourite for 2008 and there are a few reasons why this is so.

As we’ve witnessed in the UK, costs of living and travel continue to rise while the pound maintains its strength. The rest of Europe and the Euro are not exactly on the same path, but are not very far off because although they offer a diverse choice of destinations, your money doesn’t take you as far as it would further afield.
