Atlas Blue launches carbon offsetting scheme
January 28, 2008Budget airline Atlas Blue has launched a new carbon offsetting scheme as part of its booking platform.
The Moroccan carrier has established the scheme in association with technology firm Airsavings SA, whose software will calculate flight emissions and the relevant offset.
Offsetting contributions made when booking flights on the Atlas Blue website will go directly to ActionCarbone, an organisation funding projects including tree planting and the introduction of renewable energy.
Raphael Bejar, the chief executive of Airsavings SA, commented: "Demand for a way to effectively cancel out climate-changing effects inherent to air travel is very high on our customers' list of priorities."
"Travellers are very concerned about their carbon footprint and offering them a way to minimize the impact of their flight on the environment allows us to both meet their wishes and add value to the Atlas Blue experience."
Atlas Blue currently operates services between both London Heathrow and Tanger and London Gatwick and Marrakech.
