Flybe says no to Exeter-London City route
September 4, 2007Low-cost airline Flybe will not operate a route from Exeter Airport to London City Airport.
Exeter Chamber of Commerce is currently consulting with its members about whether such a route would be workable, particularly as it would be useful for business travellers, The Express and Echo reports.
Derek Phillips, chairman of the chamber, said: "I am trying to get the views of the chamber members and whether this would be something they would want to support. The ones I have spoken to so far have been quite supportive.
"The idea of a flight to London is very attractive. The route has to be viable though."
It is not yet known if any airline has considered introducing the route, but Flybe has definitely ruled it out.
The carrier does not think that a service from Exeter to London is viable because there is already such a "well-established rail link".
A spokeswoman for Flybe told the paper: "It's not a route we are planning to operate. It flies in the face of our commitment to sustainable air travel.
"The areas we fly in to London are currently disadvantaged by other transport links whereas Exeter has a well-established rail link."
Flybe does operate routes to other major cities from Exeter, including Edinburgh, Newcastle, Paris and Amsterdam.

That would be a really good route, it would be great to be able to get a flight into London.
