August was record-breaking month for Monarch
September 4, 2007Monarch has celebrated after carrying a record number of passengers last month.
A total of 459,056 passengers flew on scheduled flights with the low-fares airline in August, which is a year-on-year increase of almost 100,000 (27.8 per cent).
In addition, August was the third month in a row that Monarch has flown more than 400,000 people.
On average, routes operated by Monarch were 86 per cent full during the period, which is a one per cent increase when compared to August 2006.
What's more, Monarch experienced a one per cent year-on-year increase in internet sales.
The carrier has suggested that the poor weather in the UK during last month may have contributed to an increased number of travellers choosing to jet off to escape the unseasonably cold and wet conditions.
Holidaymakers tended to head for sunny destinations such as Spain, Portugal, Gibraltar and Cyprus.
