Audio books, free texts and more for KLM passengers
July 26, 2007Dutch airline KLM is in the process of expanding its range of in-flight entertainment to help keep long-haul passengers amused.
The carrier, which flies to destinations across the world from its Amsterdam Schiphol hub, will introduce innovations such as audio books, language lessons, a business program and free texting/email onboard its intercontinental fleet over the coming few months.
During August, September and October the in-flight texting and email function, which usually costs $2.50 per message, will be available to use free of charge.
On September 1, four new programs will be rolled out. Firstly, beginners' language lessons provided by Berlitz World Traveller will be available. They will be interactive and include exercises, tests and games.
Next, a library of audio books will be opened, beginning with three books in English, providing an engaging alternative to movies and music.
Another program will provide passengers with information about flying, with topics such as aerodynamics and turbulence included. KLM notes that this will be useful for those with a fear of flying.
The final new initiative is a program "offering insight into the complex world of global business". It also focuses on business protocols in various countries.
On top of this, the airline will extend its audio and video offering, with new movies, TV shows, music and games, also from the beginning of September.
Long-haul destinations on special offer with KLM include Nairobi from £416, Washington from £367 and Dubai from £309 (prices include taxes).
