New flights from Dundee to Belfast and Birmingham
May 9, 2007New air connections from Dundee Airport to Belfast and Birmingham will be offered by Polish-owned airline Flywhoosh.com from this month.
The carrier, a subsidiary of Poland's White Eagle Airlines, is also planning a third destination from Dundee, although details of this route have not been released.
Flights to Birmingham will depart at 7.10am and 3.55pm on weekdays, arriving at 8.35am and 5.20pm respectively. On Sundays, flights leave at 4.40pm and arrive in Birmingham at 6.05pm. On the way back, flights leave at 9.05am and 5.50pm (6.35pm on Sundays), touching down at 10.30am and 7.15pm (8pm on Sundays).
Weekday flights to Belfast City Airport will leave at 1.20pm, arriving at Belfast at 2.10pm (Sunday flights leave at 2pm and arrive at 2.50pm). Returning, flights leave Belfast at 2.40pm (3.20pm on Sundays), arriving back in Dundee at 3.30pm (4.10pm on Sundays).
The new routes are being backed by the Scottish Executive's Route Development Fund. The airline is also planning to base an aircraft and maintenance team at Dundee Airport.
Flywhoosh UK commercial director Aden Murcutt said: "Our service is ideal for people who do not want to drive an hour each way to Edinburgh airport and then pay for parking.
"We know 50,000 from the core catchment area of Dundee flew from Edinburgh to Birmingham and back last year. If you add the drive to the airport, that's 1.9 million unnecessary road miles."
Dundee Airport is located close to the city's main bus and train stations.

I go to Dundee a lot, but I have to travel to Glasgow Prestwick Airport, and the journey from there is terrible, it takes so long. It would be great if there was a flight from Belfast straight to Dundee. It would be much appreciated, by a lot of people i would imagine.
