British Airways tops OAG poll
April 18, 2007British Airways has been named the world's best carrier at the Official Airline Guide’s (OAG) Airline of the Year Awards.
Despite recent troubles at BA including large baggage loss figures for 2006 and many delays because of fog and security concerns, the airline picked up the top prize along with those for best transatlantic airline, best Europe to Asia and Australasia airline and best airline in Western Europe.
The last time the carrier took home the top honour at the OAG awards, which are voted for by frequent flyers, was in 1988. It is now tied with Singapore Airlines and Virgin Atlantic in having won on five separate occasions.
"British Airways performed solidly in just about every category it was eligible for," said OAG's Alan Glass.
"The people that matter – the world's frequent flyers – made it very clear in the way they voted that they like what BA is offering them."
