Flybe to axe Bristol routes
March 7, 2007Flybe is to cancel all its services to and from Bristol, with the exception of the Jersey route.
The move has come about as a result of the airline's takeover of British Airways subsidiary BA Connect and will come into effect on March 25.
"My team and I took a long hard look at BA Connect's loss-making operations out of Bristol and regretfully could not make a viable economic case for their retention," said Flybe's Mike Rutter.
"We apologise for the inconvenience but hope that customers will understand that without swift action there would be no chance of stemming BA Connect's chronic losses."
BA Connect also announced the closure of routes from Bristol to Zurich, Milan and Munich last week.
It was also announced this week that regional BA Connect services will no longer be part of the oneworld airline alliance, following the Flybe deal.
Flights from London City will be operated by BA CityFlyer, and the Manchester to New York flight will be operated by BA. These will remain part of oneworld, as will flights operated by GB Airways.
