Both Air France and KLM increase fuel surcharge
March 22, 2007Air France and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines have are to increase the fuel surcharge on flights, only weeks after cutting them.
An additional €4 (£2.70) will be added to each leg of long-haul routes operated by Air France, and will come into effect from today (March 22).
KLM Royal Dutch has also said it will add €1 (70p) to European flights, while long-haul destinations will incur an additional €5 (£3.40) added to the price of a ticket.
In a statement the two airlines said that a cut in the fuel surcharge would be made as soon as the price of oil fell to below $60 for 30 consecutive days. The current price of Brent Crude stands at $61.
As reported by Cheapflights, the airline group which merged in 2004, announced at the beginning of February a reduction in fuel surcharges as the price of oil fell below the economically sensitive $60 price point.
