Passengers travelling in Lufthansa's business and first classes over the coming two months will be able to dine on the likes of smoked marlin with beet gelee as gourmet chef Juan Amador lends his expertise to the airline.
The chef, whose "Amador" restaurant near Frankfurt has two Michelin stars, will be creating dishes for the German flag-carrier during November and December.
The mouth-watering first class menus will include air-dried beef from Leon with chanterelle mushrooms on spinach salad and scallops complemented by marinated peaches, port wine reduction and wild mushrooms.
In business class, passengers can enjoy tortilla with salsify, ducca olive jus and eggplant coulis.
The tie-up is indicative of a wider trend within the airline industry to introduce top-quality fare in order to offer first and business class passengers exceptional service.
If you're lucky enough to travel first class on Air France, you could enjoy menus designed by Guy Martin, the winner of three Michelin stars, while Singapore Airlines has a panel of celebrity chefs – including Gordon Ramsay – that suggests dozens of new meals each year.
Gourmet airline food is not the exclusive preserve of first class flyers, though. Thomsonfly has employed Aldo Zilli to create "simple yet delicious dishes" for its economy and premium classes that will be available from £12, beginning next May.
