Virgin Atlantic begins flights to Jamaica
July 4, 2006Virgin Atlantic has added to its Caribbean routes with a new connection to Jamaica.
Flights began yesterday (July 3) and will operate twice-weekly from London Gatwick to the popular resort of Montego Bay.
The new route is the eighth from long-haul airline Virgin Atlantic to the Caribbean, with services already running to Barbados, St Lucia, Antigua, Grenada, Tobago, Cuba and the Bahamas.
Chairman Sir Richard Branson pointed out that there would now be healthier competition on the route, "which will ultimately lead to better value for money and quality of service for passengers travelling".
To celebrate the launch of the route to the reggae island, Sir Richard appeared on the wing of the 747-400 aircraft that made the inaugural flight, the Jamaica Gleaner reports, wearing a Rastafarian headpiece and flanked by two Jamaican models.
"Virgin Atlantic is delighted to be jammin' in Jamaica from today," he said.

Flew Virgin last year to Montego Bay - great! But when will you fly to Kingston (Norman Manley) as this airport is much closer to my destination.
Also any plans to fly on Fridays - this would be great so we can get a full week out there and get back in time for work on Monday.
Keep it going (we need some competition for BA)!

I am a frequent traveller of Virgin Atlantic. It would be very much appreciated if Virgin Alantic could improve on the food on flights to Jamaica. I personally think it is horrible and demeaning for you to sit on the aircraft and be given a oat bar for breakfast. Thank you
