Flybe increases Southampton to Amsterdam service
July 5, 2006Low-cost airline Flybe has responded to strong customer interest in its Southampton to Amsterdam service by offering more flights on the route.
"Overwhelming demand" for cheap flights from the southern England hub to the cultural capital of the Netherlands has meant that Flybe will increase the service to three-times daily on weekdays and twice daily at weekends.
"As Southampton's largest scheduled carrier it's vital that we respond to consumer demand and this latest move is testament to our commitment to customers in the south," said the airline's chief commercial officer, Mike Rutter.
The new route was announced last month (see Flybe launches Southampton to Amsterdam link) – flights will begin on September 11, with tickets priced from £24.99 one-way, including taxes and charges.
Flybe is based in Exeter, with major hubs in Southampton and Birmingham. Other destinations offered from Southampton include Geneva, Alicante, Bergerac, Chambery and Edinburgh.
The airline has also announced its punctuality figures for the last week in June, when 81 per cent of its flights were on-time (defined as arriving within 15 minutes of the scheduled arrival time).
