MP calls for Air Scotland investigation
May 8, 2006David Marshall, MP for Glasgow East, has called for an investigation into Air Scotland after extreme delays on their network last weekend.
An Air Scotland flight from Glasgow to Malaga, due to take off on Sunday April 30, was disrupted when the airline suffered a "major technical problem" with its own aircraft. Passengers were taken by bus to Manchester, but a replacement jet did not appear. The flight eventually took off nearly 35 hours after the scheduled departure time.
Air Scotland received criticism for only giving out food vouchers worth £8 and for the fact they took two days to apologise and accept responsibility. Now, David Marshall has called for an official investigation into Air Scotland's conduct, saying that the airline had "ruined hundreds of people's holidays".
He continued: "This has happened too many times in the three years during which Air Scotland has been operating and no adequate compensation has been made."
Earlier this year Air Scotland was named the least punctual airline operating from Glasgow Airport by flight punctuality resource flightontime.info. It was revealed that in 2005 passengers had to endure average delays of almost one hour.
