Guernsey and Cardiff could get new connection
May 10, 2006Airline Blue Islands has proposed a new link between Guernsey and Cardiff.
The airline has applied to operate the link on behalf of owner Healthspan Leisure, the Guernsey Press and Star reports.
Blue Islands currently operates services to Brighton, the Isle of Man, Bournemouth, Alderney, Jersey and St Brieuc in France. The new link would be the first direct connection between Guernsey and Cardiff for over ten years.
Its primary function would be to transport passengers to and from Healthspan's Channel Island hotels, but other holidaymakers would be able to make use of the service.
Blue Islands chief Paul Sabin said: "The Cardiff-Guernsey link will be a welcome addition to the selection of charter routes that Blue Islands is able to operate for Healthspan Leisure customers.
"Blue Islands and Healthspan are committed to investing in Guernsey's tourism industry and I'm sure that Cardiff will prove to be a popular departure airport for visitors."
The airline has not yet confirmed a start date for the new service.

Please, please, please make this link happen. We are Guernsey residents and fly frequently between the island and Cardiff as do family members resident in South Wales. Currently we rely on the Bristol link which we have found to be very unreliable and the time of the flights are not that amenable to weekend visits. This link would be fantasic news!

Excellent news. I would certainly use this service to visit my son in Guernsey. I live in South Wales.

The flights will be only for persons using the Healthspan hotels so no use to Guernsey residents

I was getting all excited about using this service to visit family in Guernsey since Jersey, European, Manx, etc etc all pulled out; until I learnt that passengers have to stay at Healthspan Hotels. Ah well, maybe in another ten years or so our advanced western world will be able to organise a flight of 95 miles to Guernsey?

This is exciting news as I am a frequent traveller to Cardiff and we often travel to the Welsh Junior Squash Open. Guernsey at present has three development officers who have links in Wales who also take juniors to the capital so this link would be fantastic.
