UK trips abroad rise
April 7, 2006Latest figures show a three per cent increase over the last year in the number of trips abroad taken by UK residents.
Research by the UK's Office for National Statistics has shown visits overseas by Britons have risen from 64.6 million to 66.6 million in the 12 months ending February 2006.
And it looks as though people in other countries are reciprocating, as the number visiting the UK rose by six per cent, from 28.2 million to 30.0 million, in the same period.
It is interesting to note that whilst trips from the UK to Western Europe increased by two per cent, visits to North America decreased five per cent, possibly due to the stringent security measures in place when travelling to the US.
And the financial clout of British travellers is still strong as they spent £8.1 billion overseas between December 2005 and February 2006.
