Scottish Air Discount Scheme website launched

April 28, 2006

A website has been launched to provide information on plans that promise cheaper flights for residents of the Highlands and Islands of Scotland.

The Air Discount Scheme site explains how a 40 per cent reduction on ticket prices will help more people travel quickly and easily.

In February Scottish Transport Minister Tavish Scott launched the £11 million plan that will provide discounts on flights to the four main Scottish airports to and from those smaller airports within the area covered by the scheme.

One of the requirements of the scheme is that people have to apply for a card that they use when booking tickets; the four-page application form can be downloaded from the site.

The airlines taking past in the Air Discount Scheme are those operating from the Highlands and Islands to the airports at Inverness, Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow, these are bmi, Eastern Airways, Highland Airways and British Airways.

There will be no restrictions on the number of flights taken and the discount will apply to both single and return flights, but passengers will not be eligible for the discount if making a connecting flight outside of Scotland from one of the four main airports.

You say that passengers will not be eligible for the discount if making a connecting flight outside of Scotland from one of the four main airports, is this on the whole of their journey or on the connecting part traveling outside Scotland? For example, I would like to travel from Benbecula to London via Glasgow. Would I get the discount as far as Glasgow?

Hi Leigh

I have had a chat with the Air Discount Scheme and their reply to your question was:

"BA.com/ads (Air Discount Scheme) will discount the relevant sectors in through bookings automatically if applicable. Providing the route is not covered by another subsidy, discount will apply."

I hope this helps.

Craig

Can you please tell me the address to send my application form for the Air Discount Scheme? I've mislaid the envelope.

Hi Roy

Completed application forms should be sent to the following address:

Air Discount Scheme
PO Box 5715
Inverness
IV1 9AS

All the best

Craig

Can you tell me when BA (Loganair) are going to allow online bookings that take account of the discount on the eligible Shetland routes?

Hi Ian

I think it is possible to book BA/Loganair flights through the Air Discount Scheme website: www.airdiscountscheme.com/

If you click on the link titled The Airlines this takes you through to a page that features a link to a section of the BA website where you can complete your Air Discount Scheme card details.

There is also a freephone number for the scheme if this is not exactly what you require: 0800 0322890.

Hope this helps
