Isle of Man to Glasgow flights boost
February 24, 2006Scottish airline Loganair is doubling its flights between the Isle of Man and Glasgow between March and May.
The British Airways partner currently operates a once-daily service between the two locations, with one-way tickets including taxes and charges starting at £49.
Loganair will now gradually introduce a second daily service. Two extra flights will be added on March 31, followed by three more on May 2. The final two daily flights will debut on May 23.
The second daily service will run until September 29.
It is hoped the increased frequency of flights will entice more Scottish visitors to the island, which is located slap bang between England, Ireland and Scotland.
But locals hoping for better access to Scotland will also welcome the announcement.
"The additional flights on the Isle of Man to Glasgow route will provide real flexibility and choice for passengers and residents on the island," said Loganair boss Jim Cameron.
Recent figures confirm Isle of Man airport hasn't witnessed the growth in cheap flights seen at other regional hubs. Passenger numbers hit 53,000 in January – up just one per cent year-on-year.
But the airport is served by a host of no-frills airlines, including Aer Arann, BA Connect, British NorthWest Airlines, Eastern Airways and Flybe.
