Cheap flights round-up
February 25, 2006It was a busy week for route announcements as several low-cost airlines bulked up their summer and winter timetables.
Although new services to Paris and Tenerife provided the highlight, the last seven days also saw a steady flow of domestic route additions and early spring sales.
Norwich to Paris unveiled
It was a great week for East Anglia as Flybe announced it would launch flights from Norwich to Paris from May 25.
The low-cost airline only touched down in Norwich last year but visitors to the airport already have 16 routes to choose from. One-way tickets on the daily service start at £29.99.
At the same time Flybe said it would begin flights from Norwich to Manchester.
Two new routes to Canaries
No-frills airline Monarch Scheduled proved it already has an eye on next winter by announcing it would launch new routes to the Canary Islands from October.
Three flights a week from Gatwick to Tenerife, the largest of the seven islands, will commence on October 29. On the same day, it will begin flying twice weekly from Manchester to Lanzarote.
Ryanair gears up for Maltese debut
Whisper it quietly, but budget flights from the UK to Malta could also be just around the corner.
Although yet to get the green light from local authorities, Ryanair said it hopes to begin flying to the sun-drenched Mediterranean hotpsot from next year.
Isle of Man to Glasgow service gets boost
Scottish airline Loganair was among several airlines to boost domestic services this week, announcing it will double the number of flights between Glasgow and the Isle of Man by May.
One-way tickets including taxes and charges begin at £49.
Jersey to get Stansted link
Residents of Jersey were jumping for joy this week as it was announced Atlantic Express would launch a twice-daily service to London Stansted.
The new route – to commence on May 27 – will hand islanders easy access to the southeast and onwards to around 150 low fare flights. One-way tickets start at £39.99, excluding taxes and charges.
bmibaby's sunshine bargains
The low-cost offshoot of BMI, bmibaby, is hoping to tempt holidaymakers with an early summer sale.
One-way tickets including taxes start at £14.99 with Amsterdam, Perpignan, Paris and Prague all within reach for £19.99. Book by March 1 for travel in April, May or June.
Thomsonfly launches sale
Low-cost airline Thomsonfly also launched a sale, with some tasty destinations starting from £16.99 if you book by Tuesday (February 28).
Jet2.com sale almost run
Likewise, you've only got a few days left to cash in on northern budget airline Jet2.com's sale.
Book by February 28 for cut-price tickets to city, ski and sun destinations. One-way tickets including taxes and charges begin at £9.99.
