Plane spotting in the virtual world
January 4, 2006Warning! This piece of website wizardry is definitely not safe for work – only because you’ll waste hours playing it and not do what you are being paid for.
The fboweb.com website has linked together Google Earth with the real-time flight paths of jets crossing the US so you can watch them land at different airports.
Each jet is represented by a small graphic and, just like a vapour trail, there is a line marking out the where the plane has come from.
You need a broadband connection and Google Earth installed but there is nothing stopping you sitting at the end of the runway at Atlanta and watching flight DAL809 come in to land.
Here's hoping the computer wizards work their magic on some UK flights because wouldn’t it be cool if you could say to your friends who’ve just jetted in that you followed their route to the airport?
