Passengers no longer going hungry at Dublin Airport
August 30, 2005Passengers waiting to board flights at Dublin International Airport will no longer be left regretting their decision not to pick up some food before passing through security.
A number of restaurants and cafes have been moved from the main section of the terminal to the departure lounge area.
This means that a full range of hot and cold food will be available in the boarding area at the airport for the first time.
Airport authorities took the decision following complaints from passengers.
Dublin International has introduced more stringent security checks over the past year, requiring passengers to arrive at the airport up to three hours before take-off and advising them to pass through security as soon as they have checked in their luggage.
However, with no catering facilities on offer once through the security screening gates, many passengers were left facing lengthy waits without food or diversions.
"This is long overdue, especially in light of the changes in security requirements which have caused huge queues," Dermot Jewell of the Consumers’ Association of Ireland told the Sunday Times Ireland.
However, the airport is refusing to bow to pressure to streamline the security procedures in place, despite lengthy waits at security control.
Plans are in place for a major overhaul of the airport, which will see the construction of a second terminal at Dublin International.
