bmi launches first direct flights to Riyadh
August 31, 2005bmi will begin non-stop flights to the Saudi Arabian capital Riyadh on September 1.
The airline will fly three times a week from London Heathrow Airport to the Saudi capital, on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday mornings.
The new route represents the first direct flights between the UK and Riyadh.
bmi is planning to tailor its in-flight service to cater to the needs of Middle Eastern passengers, using Halal meat in its meals and including a choice of Arabic dishes.
It is the first time bmi has flown to the region, with the airline planning to offer flights to other Gulf destinations if the Riyadh flights prove popular with passengers.
Return fares for the London-Riyadh service start from £517, including taxes.
Connecting flights are also available from Aberdeen, Belfast City, Durham Tees Valley, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds-Bradford and Manchester airports to Heathrow and Riyadh.
Middle Eastern airlines Emirates and Saudi Arabian Airlines both offer flights to the Saudi capital via Dubai and Jeddah respectively.
